Board officers re-elected

Parkland School Board members have re-elected David Kennedy as president and Lisa Roth as vice president for the next year.

This will be the third term in that position for each of them.

Kennedy, who is in his 21st year on the board, commented on the work ahead.

“I rely heavily on the team of 10,” Kennedy said. “We are a very transparent board. The new school that’s in the works will be an exciting project moving forward.

“We’ll continue to improve academics in Parkland.”

Kennedy manages apartment houses in eastern Pennsylvania in a family business and substitute teaches at three vocational technical schools and in the Whitehall-Coplay School District.

Roth, a customer service specialist at Air Products, has been on the board for eight years and serves as the board liaison to the Community Advisory Council of which she has been a part for 15 years.

Roth is looking forward to the new year.

“I’m excited about the new elementary school and more stages of planning for it,” Roth said. “I’m watching the effects of full day kindergarten which has been well accepted.

“People like that it includes purposeful play and time to socialize.”

Four board members who were successful in the November general election took the oath of office.

David Hein, a certified public accountant, is starting his second term on the board.

Robert Cohen, retired business owner and education software consultant, is entering his sixth term.

Marie Maritch, software quality analyst, and Linda Perlman-McKenna, retired health services management professional, are beginning their first terms on the board.

Longtime board member Robert Bold provided a welcoming comment to the newly elected members.

“I’d like to thank the new board members for being willing to help the children of Parkland School District,” Bold said.
