Carl W. Schell
Carl Schell, 86, of Wescosville, formerly of Vera Cruz, died Nov. 17, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Ruth-Ann (Walck) Schell. They celebrated 53 years of marriage in October. Born in Vera Cruz, he was the son of the late Daniel and Elva (Yeakel) Schell.
He graduated from East Greenville High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was the owner/operator of Schells Egg Ranch and received many grand champion and blue ribbons for eggs at the Allentown Fair and state farm shows. For several years, he was the largest egg producer in Lehigh County.
He was also a school bus driver for Leibensperger, Laidlaw, First Student and Student Transportation of America for the past 30 years. He drove for Emmaus High School girls basketball and softball.
He was a member of the Vera Cruz Fire Co., serving as chief and assistant fire chief, president and vice president. He was currently serving as chaplain and received a 60-year membership pin in June 2016.
He was a 4-H Club member and leader for several years, leading the Vera Club to many top awards in Lehigh County.
He was a member of the Grundsow Lodge #14, serving on the Rawd and administering the Ferbinnerri for many years. He was a former member of the Lower Lehigh Pennsylvania Dutch Fersommiling (FOA) Webseit in Monsleit (treasurer) and a member of the Vera Cruz Community Association representing the fire company for many years.
He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for many organizations and friends.
He was a member of Old Zionsville UCC, serving as deacon and elder. He was currently a member of the choir.
He is survived by his wife, sons, Craig and Christopher; sisters, Arlene Marks, Annie and her husband Robert Souder. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert.
