Peter Gratzon, 99, formerly of Catasauqua, died Nov. 15, 2017, at his home in Boca Raton. He was the husband of the late Irene A. (Kavalkovich) Gratzon.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Yurchak) Gratzon.
He was an honors graduate of Catasauqua High School, where he was the MVP of the baseball team. He attended Lehigh University, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and George Washington University.
He was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a head navy recruiter for many years in the Lehigh Valley and in Reading until he retired. He worked for the government in Washington, D.C. He was a co-owner of the former Heavy’s Beverages, Catasauqua.
He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, where he had been on the consistory.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianne Singer; three grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly Dianne Singer, Alexis Rae Singer-Weaver and Christopher Michael Singer and his fiancee Brenda Borton; a son, Peter Jr.; and a grandson, Andrew Gratzon.
A viewing will be held 10-11 a.m. Nov. 24, followed by an 11 a.m. service at the funeral home, 234 Walnut St., Catasauqua.
