Upper Mac proceeds with budget
Finance Director Bruce Koller presented Upper Macungie Township supervisors the proposed budget for 2018 during their Nov. 2 meeting.
Koller said projected revenue would be $29,494,952 with expenditures of $29,524,081.
A deficit of $29,129 was noted, with Koller stating this would not be a problem.
Supervisors, after listening to Koller’s presentation, voted to adopt the budget.
The proposal will be advertised for 20 days with final approval expected at the board’s December meeting.
No tax increase is anticipated.
In other matters, a third tennis court was changed to a pickle ball court with the total number of courts now 12.
The cost to construct all pickle ball courts is $120.000.
There is a vacancy on the planning commission. Applications are available on the website.
Supervisors named Robert Ibach township manager.
A 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle, used by the police department, was sold to Whitehall Township.
The township received $5,500 for the cycle.
Supervisors agreed to advertise for a CPA or CPA firm to audit next year’s financial records.
In the absence of Police Chief Edgardo Colon, Lt. Mike Sitoski gave the police report.
Total calls for service in October were 965 with 407 traffic citations being issued. Thefts led the list of reported crimes for October with 12.
DUI offenses and vandalism/criminal mischief tied for second with eight each.
The K-9 team was involved in four cases in Upper Macungie with three assists in other municipalities.
The motor carrier safety program performed 55 inspections with 103 violations discovered and 28 citations issued.
Many members of the police force will go unshaven in November.
According to information provided by Police Lt. Peter Nickischer, officers have been granted permission to forgo shaving until Dec. 1.
Officers are required to make a $50 donation and the money will be divided between: The Autism Resource Community Hub, The Hydrocephalus Association, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
Officers who participate will be charged a “penalty” if they shave before the end of the initiative.
