Joanne P. Sankowski, of Lower Macungie Township, died Nov. 3, 2017, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Edward H. Sankowski. They were married for 32 years. Born in Hellertown, she was a daughter of the late William and Ada (Ruch) Potts.

She was a 1952 graduate of Hellertown High School and was employed as a secretary at various law offices, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Orefield, a volunteer at Lehigh Center for 15 years, and a member of the YMCA’s “Top of the Hill.”

At the age of 18, she appeared on the Ted Mac Show with the Melodettes and later joined the Sweet Adelines for more than 25 years. She had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes and knitted many baby blankets for Mary’s Shelter and Care Net.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Bonnie and her husband Thomas A. Beier, of Fountain Hill; sons, Frederick D. Lewis, of Coopersburg, Mark W. Lewis and his wife, Kathy Rose, of Hellertown; stepdaughter, Kimberley Ann and her husband Vince O’Brien, of Warrington; sister, Mary Jane and her husband Tom Karger; grandchildren, Jarrett and his wife, Katrina, Sean and his wife, Olga, Kiara and her husband Jake, Kerry, Collin, Tyler, Drew, Kaleigh; great-grandchildren, AJ, Lizzy, Levi, Miabella, Sofia, Matthias, Lenox, Colette; nieces; nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Howard Strohl and Robert, Richard, William Potts; sisters, Anita Jacob and Blennie Wall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10 in the church, 1879 Applewood Drive. Call 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown.
