LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Coplay: Annual coat drive has begun

For the ninth year, Warmth for a Friend is reaching out to the community to donate coats, sweaters, gloves, scarves and hats, along with other types of winter wear, for those in need.

Drop-off locations are available Nov. 5-Dec. 9 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., and St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 3024 Ruch St., Stiles.

Please put all your donations in plastic bags to make it easier for pickup and distribution.

Borough residents are reminded to be part of the Scouting for Food drive Nov. 11 by placing food in bags for pickup beginning 8 a.m. Boy Scout Troop 79 will collect the food - canned and boxed - in aiding the food bank to help feed the needy families and individuals.

As Veterans Day is celebrated Nov. 11, Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association’s community sign on Chestnut Street reminds the public of the sacrifices men and women made for their country. The borough has hung American flags on Chestnut and Second streets to recognize those who served in the military.

There is no official program on tap for the day, but the two borough churches - St. John’s Lutheran and St. Peter Roman Catholic - will recognize veterans in their addresses to the congregations.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., will have a halupki dinner, with all the extras, at the church hall, 4-6 p.m. Nov. 11. The public is invited.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church will hold a dedication and blessing ceremony for its new elevator immediately after the 10:30 a.m. Mass Nov. 12. Following the program, there will be light refreshments served in the church’s social hall.
