Marvin M. Wright, 78, of White- hall, died Oct. 24, 2017, at Sacred Heart Assisted Living, Northampton. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. “Peggy” (Templeton) Wright.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Martin and Eva (Getz) Wright.
He was a 1957 graduate of Northampton High School.
He worked at Universal Atlas Cement Company, a division of U.S. Steel, Northampton plant.
In 1967, he was the youngest individual ever elected to a full-time position as a district representative of the United Cement, Lime & Gypsum Workers, District Council No. 1, until 1980 when he was elected as an international vice-president of the UCLGA Workers International Union. In 1987, he co-founded the Independent Workers of North America, merging with the paper workers in 1991 and with the United Steelworkers in 2004. He retired in 2008.
In 2013, he participated in a trial program for a new cancer medication.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy and his wife Ruthann of Palmyra, Mo., and Mark and his wife Lisa of Hellertown; a daughter, Kathleen and her husband James Brougher of Lehighton; six grandchildren, Rachele, Allison, Adam, Albert, Tyler and Maeann; and a great-grandson, Jackson.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert R. Wright and Ary R. Wright.
