Marilyn Lou Kachelries, 78, of Emmaus, died Oct.14, 2017 at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, Calif., with her children by her side. She was the wife of the late Ray D. Kachelries. They were married for 56 years. Born in Middletown, she was a daughter of the late Franklin F. Horn and Kathryn (Shindel) Horn.
She graduated from Mechanicsburg High School.
She was a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance School where she met her husband. She became a Realtor in 1973 and was an emeritus member of the Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors. She was still working part-time as recently as June of this year.
She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with her husband and together they earned many master points in bridge. They enjoyed their annual fishing trip to Ocean City, Md., with their children and grandchildren. In more recent years, she became a fixture at the Emmaus High School boys basketball games where her twin grandsons played. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Kach” by the team and fans.
She is survived by a son, Robert and his wife, Susan; a daughter, Karen and her husband, Mark Popovich; four grandsons, John, David and Matthew Kachelries and Kirk Popovich; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Horn. She was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Horn, earlier this year.
There will be a Celebration of Life noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Iron Lakes Country Club, 3625 Shankweiler Road, Allentown, 18104.
