District news: Graduates of Distinction nominations sought

Whitehall-Coplay School District is looking for nominations for its Zephyr Graduates of Distinction program. The district recognizes chosen Graduates of Distinction and their accomplishments in academic achievement, music, the arts, civil and or military service, community service and/or significant personal achievement.

Nomination forms can be found at whitehallcoplay.org, Whitehall Township Public Library and Coplay Public Library or by contacting Dr. Barbara Chomik at 610-439-1431, ext. 1021.

The deadline for nominations is Jan. 12, 2018.

Steckel’s PBS reading night is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Nov. 2. It will be held at the elementary school. Mark your calendar and plan to attend this great event.

Report cards will be issued Nov. 8. The high school and middle school’s cards will be available electronically on that date. The elementary buildings will be giving out report cards during parent-teacher conferences the week of Nov. 20.

After the first marking period, all report cards can be obtained electronically.

The middle school picture retake day will be Nov. 9. Please return your unwanted picture packet for retakes.

ESOL family night for all grades is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the middle school.

Please take note that classes will be canceled for students for a professional development day Nov. 10.

The Whitehall High School swim team will be having a designer purse bingo Dec. 2 at the Eygpt Memorial Park pavilion. Doors open 4:30 p.m., and bingo starts 6 p.m.

There will be great purse prizes from names like Michael Kors, Vera Bradley, Coach and Kate Spade.

Tickets are $20 in advance tickets or $25 at the door for 20 games of bingo. There will also be specials, raffles, food and more to purchase.

The elementary schools continue to participate in General Mills’ BoxTops for Education collection program. Each BoxTop is redeemed for a cash reward, which is used for students’ activities, and each school has its own goals.

Just trim the BoxTops and periodically send them into school with your child.
