LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Whitehall Township Public Library: Local authors tell spooky tales

Do you like scary stories? Stop by 6 p.m. Oct. 30 to hear some local authors tell spine-tingling tales for the Halloween season. Authors like Phil Giunta, Chris Ochs, John Evans and Dawn Sooy will be here to read and talk about their writings. They are part of Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group.

The tickets for the annual basket raffle are still on sale at the front desk until noon Oct. 30. We have 68 items on the raffle list. Just write your name and phone number and drop the tickets into the containers near each basket.

There is a cost for the tickets.

If you are thinking ahead for Christmas and need a special gift, it is not too late to order a copy of the Whitehall High School yearbook. The library digitized the yearbooks from 1922 to 2016. We are able to provide copies on DVDs, which can be displayed on a computer. Complete an order form and payment to receive your copy. Order forms are available at the front desk or on our website. The library will call when your copy is ready.

Did you know that you can find some bargain prices and support the library at the same time? Mark your calendar for the annual used book sale 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 17 and 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 18. We will also have a bag sale noon-3 p.m. Nov. 18. There will be a table with yummy treats for sale and another with holiday decorations and other items.

The library will be collecting nonperishable canned and boxed food products. All items collected will be given to Whitehall Food Pantry. Items may be dropped off during regular library hours. We do collect food year-round and not just for the holidays.

We will continue to be a drop-off point for Snack Pack Pals for Whitehall-Coplay School District students. The food is gathered and packed for children who are in the most need of nutritious food to alleviate severe hunger during long weekends when free breakfast and lunch are not available at the school. If you would like to make a food donation, drop off donations during regular library hours.

Items needed: shelf-stable milk boxes, macaroni and cheese (boxes and individual packets), Chef Boyardee (cans and microwaveable bowls), small boxes of cold cereal, fruit cups, applesauce cups, juice boxes and pouches, fruit snacks, packs of cheese and peanut butter crackers, graham crackers, granola bars and gallon-sized resealable bags.

You still have time to make your donation to the fundraiser letter. Once a year, we do a fundraiser letter to help us with all the programs we do at the library. We have copies at the front desk and on our website. Payments may be made with check, credit card, cash or PayPal. Thank you to all who have donated so far. For more information, see our website or newsletter.
