Northampton: Food bank walkathon set for Saturday

Northampton Area Food Bank’s Halloween walkathon will be held Oct. 28, rain or shine.

Registration begins 8:30 a.m. at the food bank, 1601 Canal St.

The walk - approximately 4-1/2 miles - starts 9 a.m. in the food bank parking lot.

Those planning to participate are encouraged to come in costume.

The food bank will be open till noon for tours, donation drop-offs and volunteering information.

Catholic War Veterans Post 454 is sponsoring a murder/mystery dinner theater event titled “B.I.N.G. Ohh Murder” Oct. 29.

The show will be held at the Catasauqua American Legion, 330 Second St.

Cocktails will be served 4 p.m., and the show starts 5 p.m.

The cost includes dinner and the show.

Trick or treat in the Borough of Northampton will be held 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Homeowners wishing to hand out candy to the children are asked to keep their porch light on.

Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1301 Newport Ave., is holding a halupki sale. Orders can be picked up at the church 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 11.

The church is also holding a nut roll sale. Choose from a variety of flavors: apricot, lekvar, nut, poppy seed or red raspberry.

Orders can be picked up at the church 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 9.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. Nov. 13 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave.

Mary Wozniak, from AARP, will speak about the PA Care Act.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1235 Main St., will host bingo featuring Longaberger, Vera Bradley and Coach items Nov. 18.

Doors open 11:30 a.m., and bingo starts 1 p.m. There will be a Chinese auction and refreshments.

Proceeds benefit the building fund of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
