John J. Dwyer
John J. Dwyer, 89, of Lower Macungie Township, died Oct. 23, 2017. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Dorsey) Dwyer. Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Casey) Dwyer.
He served in the Army with the 6th Regimental Combat Team in Korea and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Army Commendation Medal.
He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering, now NJIT, and later received a Master of Business Administration degree from Lehigh University.
He was employed by Air Products and Chemicals, Trexlertown and retired after 26 years as a manager of machinery engineering. He moved to Houston, Texas, and started a successful consulting engineering practice, which was cut short by a stroke after 10 years. He returned to the Valley to be with his family.
He was a volunteer AARP tax preparer for nine years and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 15 years since 1997. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served on their Performance Test Code Committee where he assisted in rewriting the Centrifugal Compressor test regulations. He was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the American Legion.
He was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Emmaus.
He is survived by children, William J., Kathleen Soska, of Macungie and Barbara, of Beverly Hills, Fla.; stepchildren, James Dorsey, Ann O’Brien, Daniel Dorsey, Susan Kahr, Robert Dorsey and their families; grandchildren, Chet Soska and Candace and her husband David MacDougall; great-grandchildren, Emily, Kaelyn and Brian MacDougall.

Services will be held 10:15 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 25 Elm St., Emmaus, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 415 S. 6th St., Emmaus. Calling hours will be held 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Oct. 26 in the funeral home.
