Arthur Hayden Anderson Sr.

Arthur Hayden Anderson Sr., 85, of Whitehall, died Sept. 26, 2017. He was the husband of Sybil (Angela) Anderson of Fogelsville for 58 years.

Born in Porus, Jamaica, he was a son of Arthur and Zoe (Amy) Anderson.

He graduated in 1961, having earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in geology, from Howard University, Washington, D.C. He graduated in 1963 from American University with a master’s degree in chemistry.

After high school graduation, he had worked for the Jamaican government import/export office for 18 months. After graduating from American University, he worked for IBM in Kingston and Woodstock, N.Y., during which he became an U.S. citizen, and lived in Lexington, Ky., until he retired in 1990. He was an adjunct professor at University of Kentucky.

He was a Life Master Gold member of American Contract Bridge League and led bridge games and tournaments.

He was a choir member and on the finance board at Trinity United Methodist Church.

There will be a memorial service 1 p.m. Nov. 11 at Calvary Temple, 3436 Winchester Road, Allentown.
