Hawks, Trojans roll to wins
The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s top two teams rolled to victories Friday night, while in the Colonial League Northwestern put a scare in once-beaten Southern Lehigh before falling to the Spartans.
Here’s a look at some of the action in the eighth week of the 2017 high school football season.
Whitehall-Bethlehem Catholic
The Golden Hawks cruies to a 56-14 win over Whitehall.
Javon Clement passed for 164 yards and two touchdowns in the win, with Shamus Williams hauling in four passes for 108 yards and a score. Daizhun Rhodes caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another 81 yards on four carries.
Matt Bisko puled up 103 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries for Bethlehem Catholic (7-1).
Ethan Parvel thre for 86 yards and a touchdown for Whitehall (5-3). Dez Boykin caught three passes for 37 yards and a score. Boykin also ran the ball three times for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Liberty-Emmaus
The Hornets beat Liberty 28-13.
Deonte Castro caught two touchdown passes from Blake Reed (11-for-20, 197 pass yards, three touchdowns) while piling up 118 yards on five grabs. Reed also hit Lubens Myers (15 carries, 50 yards; two receptions, 46 yards) for a touchdown. Noah Briedinger also scored for Emmaus (5-3), scampering in from three yards out on his only carry of the game.
Todd Erney threw for a touchdown and ran for another for Liberty (3-5).
Parkland-Pocono Mountain East
The Trojans rolled over the Cardinals 49-0.
Parkland improves to 8-0 with the win, while Pocono Mountain East falls to 3-5.
Easton-Northampton
The Konkrete Kids fell to Easton, 42-7.
Northampton drops to 2-6 with the loss. The Red Rovers improve to 6-2.
Freedom-Nazareth
The Blue Eagles edged Freedom 32-25.
The Patriots fall to 4-4 with the loss, while Nazareth ups its record to 4-4.
Northwestern-Southern Lehigh
The Spartans held on to beat Northwestern, 28-21
Southern Lehigh (7-1) scored 21 straight points after the Tigers’ Hunter Miller opened the scoring with a 47-yard field goal.
Northwestern (3-5) roared back in the second half. Ryan Haas (four receptions, 53 yards) caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Deven Bollinger (13-for-24 passing for 161 yards) and Jayden Allen (17 carries, 65 yards) ran in from five yards out to get Northwestern within 21-18.
Spartan quarterback Logan Edmond found Ethan Price for his second touchdown of the game to stretch the lead back to 28-18, but a 37-yard field goal from Miller got Northwestern within a touchdown late in the game.
Caleb Clymer had five catches for 82 yards for the Tigers.
Price hauled in five passes for 114 yards and a pair of scores. completed 13 of 21 passes for 222 yards. Michael Sisselberger had 104 yards on seven carries, including an 80-yard touchdown run.
Northern Lehigh-Salisbury
The Falcons beat Northern Lehigh 34-13.
Salisbury’s Tim Buda ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while teammate Kyle Pingarelli ran for 85 yards on 12 rushes. Falcon quarterback Jacob Kamp completed three of four passes for two touchdowns. He also ran one in. Lucas Ierwin caught a pair of passes for 23 yards and a score. Irwin also ran the ball nine times for 40 yards.
Alex Glenn (4 carries, 61 yards) ran for a touchdown in the game, while Oliver Stewart caught one pass for a 30-yard score for the Falcons (4-4).
Northern Lehigh’s Mason Seiler (13 carries, 50 yards) ran for a touchdown and quarterback Zach Long (8-for-16 passing, 118 yards) connected with Damion Rodriguez for a touchdown. The Bulldogs drop to 0-8.
Catasauqua-Palmerton
The Blue Bombers beat Catasauqua 26-7.
Miguel Hernandez caught a 34-yard pass from Andrew Brett for the Rough Riders’ only touchdown.
Three different Palmerton (5-3) players scored in the game as quarterback Tekoah Guedes (16-for-32 passing, 164 yards; 18 carries for 137 yards) ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another.
Catasauqua falls to 2-6 this season.
