James “Weasel” J. Rothrock, 89, of Whitehall, died Sept. 27, 2017, at his daughter’s home in New Jersey, where he resided for the past three years, after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Marie E. (Batza) Rothrock for 57 years.
He was born in Hokendauqua.
He was a 1946 Whitehall High School graduate.
He was a boatswain’s mate 3rd class in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He was aboard the cruiser CL102 and the destroyer USS English DD696.
He worked at Catasauqua Ribbon Mill from 1952 to 1955 and then at Fuller Company (GATX) until he retired after 39 years.
He was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mickleys, where he was a greeter.
He was a volunteer with Cetronia Ambulance Corporation. He was a member of American Legion Jones-Quigg Post 739, Hokendauqua, for 59 years, where he was on the firing squad.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna and her husband George Booskos of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; a granddaughter, Melissa Decker-Alifanz and her husband Michael Alifanz of Yonkers, N.Y.; a great-granddaughter, Emalene Alifanz; a niece, Diana Millen of Whitehall; a nephew, Joseph Batza of New Ringgold; and a nephew, Rick Batza of Indianapolis, Ind.
