There are a couple of major community-based fund drives, which are held annually, that are currently taking place - to benefit Coplay Lions Club and Coplay Fire Department. Both groups are seeking donations from residents and businesses.
Coplay Lions Club, in its 44th year, has a prized reputation for its service and financial assistance that involves providing eye exams, eye glasses, hearing aides and financial help for several organizations and programs, including Center for Visual Loss of the Lehigh Valley, an annual outing for the blind, Beacon Camp for the Blind, Lions District 124’s food bank and the Leader Seeing Eye Dog program.
Financial support is also given to Coplay Food Bank, Coplay Senior Citizens, Coplay Fire Department, Coplay Public Library, Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association and Miller-Keystone Blood Center via membership donations.
The group also funds a scholarship to a graduating Whitehall High School senior and a memorial scholarship for a graduating Central Catholic High School senior.
The community projects also include a banner at Sammy Balliet Stadium, support for Stanley W. Reinhard Jr. American Legion Post 426 and fresh greenery and cleanup at the Fifth and Hokendauqua streets veterans monument.
The volunteer fire department’s fund drive goes toward daily operating costs, protective gear, radios, pagers, tools, hose and other items. The department is also funded by the borough.
