Jan Porzuczek, 97, of Wescosville, formerly of Binghamton, N.Y., died Sept. 10, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Zofia (Czerwinska) Porzuczek. The couple celebrated 68 years of marriage on April 19, 2017. Born in Przedborz, Lwow, Poland, he was the son of the late Stanislaw and Karolina (Olszowa) Porzuczek.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown.
Following exile to and escape from a guarded Siberian hard labor camp, he served in the Polish Free Army 2nd Corps under the command of British Forces during World War II where he saw military action in Monte Cassino, Italy. Europe’s postwar reorganization left him without home and country. He lived in England until immigrating to the United States.
Prior to relocating to the Lehigh Valley, he was the owner and operator of European Meat Products in Binghamton, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Teresa Porzuczek-Melin and her husband Robert Melin; grandaughter, Dr. Alyson Melin and her husband, Dr. Andrew Heckman. He was predeceased by a son, Peter in 2014.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
