Harry S Truman Elementary School and Western Salisbury Elementary School are again participating in a national heatlhy-eating initiative this week called P.A.C.K Week - Pack Assorted Colors for Kids Week. This is a fun and educational program aimed at encouraging kids to eat more fruits and vegetables, which can be difficult for some kids to do. The schools are asking families to pack a fruit or vegetable in your child’s lunch based on the color of the day. Wednesday is red – strawberries, red pepper slices or red apples are some delicious choices to send in; Thursday is yellow/orange – baby carrots, dried apricots or orange slices go well in a lunch; Friday is green – celery sticks, broccoli florets or green apples make great snacks.

Salisbury Youth Association basketball signups for the 2017-2018 are beginning. Signups will occur at Laubach Park 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19; the Salisbury Middle School cafeteria 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 and the HST cafeteria 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Registration forms are available at signups or online at syasports.net. Any questions can be directed to Paul Ziegenfus at 717-413-8494 or basketball@syaspports.net.

Sept. 21 is the HST open house night for those with students in kindergarten through second grades, 7 to 8:15 p.m. This is a time to see all that is new in the program this year and get to meet your student’s teacher.

Sept. 25 is picture day at HST. An order form was sent home with students; if interested in ordering photos, send the form in with payment on that date.

There will be a curriculum and technology meeting 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the administration building.

The next HST T-shirt day will be Sept. 28.

This seems crazy to me but Sept. 29 marks the mid-marking period for the first marking period for SMS and Salisbury High School.

HST will hold a volunteer clearance night 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the library. Staff will be available to assist in obtaining clearances needed for volunteers to be able to assist with in-school activities and field trips. Participants will need to bring the following information: active e-mail address, previous addresses and people you have lived with, social security number, any aliases or maiden name and a credit or debit card. For more information, contact Shannon Rooney at 610-791-2800, ext. 4500.

Salisbury Township and the Salisbury Township School District will hold the third annual community breakfast. This event is open to any township resident, employee or school district alumni. Breakfast will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Salisbury High School. Breakfast is free, but reservations are required. Registration is available online at salisburysd.org/breakfast. If you do not have access to the Internet, you can register by calling 610-797-2062, ext. 1000.

The next HST PTO meeting will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 2. Come out and see how you can be a part of making this a great year for the students.

There will also be an operations committee meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the administration building.
