Charles “Smokey” Snyder
Charles C. “Smokey” Snyder, Jr., 71, of Emmaus, formerly of Macungie, died suddenly at his home Sept. 11, 2017. He was the husband of Mary Louise (Schaffer) Snyder who he married March 17, 1990 and was the love of his life. He was the son of the late Charles C. and Marian M. (Shingler) Snyder.
He retired in 2010 from Mack Trucks after a 37-year career.
He graduated from Emmaus High School, Class of 1964, where he lettered in football, wrestling and track.
A member of St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Emmaus, he was always a willing worker and served in numerous capacities.
An avid hunter, he was a member and past president of Hemlock Hunting Club, Sullivan County.
In his lifetime he coached youth softball and baseball, volunteered in his community whenever needed, was a Benefactor member of the NRA, and also a member of the Alburtis Rod and Gun Club and Upper Milford Field and Stream. In addition to hunting and riding motorcycle, most of all he enjoyed his family, especially watching his grandchildren’s sports.
He was a larger-than-life presence wherever he was, he loved people, and will be dearly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kris Scipio, of Pottstown; Kori Blevins (husband Ersel), of Darlington, Md.; Kristen (Fey) Bachert (husband Alfred), of Emmaus; sons, Brian Fey (wife Michelle), of Zionsville; Steven Fey, of Emmaus; grandchildren, Jacob and Jalen Snyder-Scipio, Brian and Matthew Bachert, Joshua Fey, Elias and Abraham Scipio, and his favorite granddaughter Madison Fey; sisters, Joanne Kressley, of Macungie and Loretta Schaedel (husband Tom), of Coplay.
