Coplay: Flags are lowered to honor McNeill

The American flags on poles outside the Coplay Borough Municipal Building and borough Parkway were lowered to half-staff, on the direction of Gov. Tom Wolf, in respect to state Rep. Dan McNeill, who died Sept. 8.

Elected town officials and others having a close affinity for the community said McNeill’s representation of the borough was genuine and personal and a great benefit when it came to securing grants.

The Ironton Rail-Trail autumn stroll is 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 23. The stroll begins at Parkview Pool in Hokendauqua.

IRT Oversight commissioners have not ruled out the return of the trolley rides, which were a major draw for the public.

For motorists finding the ride a bit rough on South Second Street, at Scheiber Avenue and Lehigh Street, the excavation and auxiliary work is not UGI related. Those huge pipes to be laid are in connection with a stormwater collection system. The area has been a problem during and after rain.

It may not be water aerobics, but the midweek and Saturday morning aerobics classes at the borough hall gymnasium/auditorium continue to be popular.

Law enforcement personnel have descended on the borough hall. The semiannual special training of police, probation officers and others, as part of ongoing education and training, is held in borough hall and on the grounds and Parkway.
