Cedar Crest College

Named to ‘Top College’ list

For the seventh year in a row, Cedar Crest College has been named among the top colleges in the nation by U.S. News and World Report’s Best College Rankings, 2018.

Among colleges in the northern region, Cedar Crest is ranked the sixth Best Regional College, the second Best Value School, the second Best College for Veterans, a Top Regional College and Best Value College every year since 2012.

In addition to the U.S. News & World Report ranking, Cedar Crest was recognized for its student engagement by the Wall Street Journal and was named a “Best College for Your Money” by MONEY Magazine. In 2017, Cedar Crest’s registered nursing program was ranked second in the nation by the Community for Accredited Online Schools.

Open house Oct. 14

Cedar Crest College will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 14. Students who attend will tour the campus, hear from current students, meet with members of the faculty, learn about the college’s nationally recognized academic programs, scholarship opportunities and the Sophomore Expedition, a guaranteed study abroad program.

The event will coincide with the college’s annual Fall Festival, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., and will feature inflatables, rides, food and giveaways.

Northampton Community College

Spartan Sprint 5K Run/Walk Sept. 30

The Northampton Community College 5K walk/run to benefit the “Spartan Aid” fund will be held Sept. 30 at the Bethlehem (main) campus.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in Room 114, College Center; 5K walk/run begins at 9 a.m. There is a registration fee. Proceeds help students to address unmet financial needs, such as gas money or bus fare to get to class and book purchases or groceries.

Youth Chess Tournament Nov. 4

Northampton Community College will hold its annual Youth Chess Championship, for ages 18 and under, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4 in the College Center, second floor, at the main (Green Pond Road) campus.

Interior Decorating Certificate offered

There will be a two-section class, one Thursdays and one Saturdays, toward earning an interior decorating certificate, starting Sept. 21and 23 in Keystone Hall at the Monroe campus.

Learn the basics of interior decorating through color theory, lighting, window treatments, flooring, furniture styles and storage. Explore wall treatments, color and fabric coordination and using light as a layering tool while learning how to turn a concept into a beautiful and cohesive reality.

New faculty, staff introduced

Penn State Lehigh Valley has announced the addition of several faculty and staff members. They are:

Samantha Beebe, biobehavioral health program coordinator and lecturer; Aurora Brunovsky, regional human resources consultant; Patrick J. Cassidy III, coordinator of student life; Jennifer Jarson, head librarian; Zella L. Ondrey, Ed.D., campus registrar; Valerie L. Peters, program manager of Lehigh Valley LaunchBox; Ashley Pierce, part-time instructor in theater; Phillip St. James, director of campus development; Sara Roth, administrative assistant to faculty; Jeffrey A. Stone, Ph.D., assistant professor of information sciences and technology; and Daniel Vice, Ph.D., part-time instructor in geology.

Open House set for Oct. 14

Prospective students and their families are invited to attend Penn State Day from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Saucon Valley Penn State campus. The program will include an overview of the admissions and financial aid process, off-campus housing and student life by current Lehigh Valley students, faculty, and staff.

A campus information fair with campus representatives will highlight specific departments information. Student Lion Ambassadors will give campus tours to interested persons.

Lecture series begins Oct. 10

Dick Boak, company historian of C.F. Martin & Company (Martin Guitar), will speak about the company history from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 10 in room 302 at the Center Valley campus.

For the past 32 years, he has held many diverse and creative positions there, leading to the formation of Martin’s Artist Relations Department and the conception of more than 140 signature guitar collaborations with the top musical talents of our time.

His book, “Martin Guitar Masterpieces”, relays the stories of those collaborations. For 17 years, he has resided in his converted “Church Of Art,” an active studio for art, woodworking and live music
