Clarence J. Layton

Clarence J. Layton, 99, of Allentown, died Sept. 7, 2017, in Whitehall Manor. Born in Emmaus, he was the son of the late Franklin and Annie (Lantz) Layton. He was the husband of the late June M. (Borrelli) Layton, who died in 2014.

As a teenager, he was an active participant in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression.

Later, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific.

He worked as a test set technician for the former Western Electric for 40 years, until retiring in 1982.

He was a former member of Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church in Allentown.

He was active at the Allentown YMCA for many years.

He is survived by a son, Thomas E. and his wife Andee, of Salisbury Township; two daughters, Robin and her husband Fred Wolf, of Kempton and Jill and her husband David Gross, of Moore Township; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, Aubree and Corinne; and two step grandchildren, Stephen and James.

He was predeceased by three brothers John, Howard and Kenneth; and two sisters, Elsie Wetherhold and Fern Schreiter.

Arrangements were made by the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home Inc., Allentown.
