Bodnar gets 100th win

With Whitehall’s win over Pocono Mountain West last Friday, head coach Jenn Bodnar reached a lofty plateau that firmly establishes her as the most successful field hockey coach in school history.

With Friday’s win over PMW, Bodnar earned her 100th victory as the head coach of the Zephyrs. She achieved that milestone as her squad blanked the visiting Panthers 12-0 to get their first victory of the season. Her team marked the occasion by unfurling a banner honoring that milestone after the game.

While that was a well-earned moment of celebration, it’s been a bit of a rough start for the Zephyrs who were shut out in their opening two games, with losses to Easton and Emmaus, respectively. Bodnar said that Easton was ready to go from the opening whistle.

“Our season did not start out as we hoped, Easton came out strong, and Easton flat outplayed us,” said Bodnar. “They wanted it more than we did, so that was a little depressing.”

She also said that they made some mistakes that didn’t represent the type of team that they want to be, and then later addressed those issues after watching film and talking about the game.

Bodnar said that she was happy with what transpired after they met, and even though they lost to Emmaus 9-0 last Tuesday, she saw an improvement in their energy and drive.

“It’s not the outcome that you want, but if you take aspects of the game, we do feel like we did well,” said Bodnar. “It was just something to build on.”

They built on it in a big way as they scored early and often in their win over the Panthers. In the second half they got goals from Jennifer Kromer, Maddie Trocki and Jenna Rohrbaugh, who were part of a scoring spree that helped change the trajectory of their season.

“Anytime you get a win it’s exciting,” said Bodnar.

She also liked that they stuck to their game plan and made passing a priority throughout the contest.

They followed that win with a 2-1victory over Pocono Mountain East on Tuesday evening.

With games against Northampton and Parkland looming this week, Bodnar feels those contests could become swing games as far as how they’re season’s going to unfold. Both opponents are talented rivals and they could go either way, she said.

“I think this is going to be a strong test for us this week,” said Bodnar.
