With schools now open, parents are reminded there are no crossing guards at the school bus stops - a practice that was stopped years ago. Police are expected to step up patrols in the morning when the children go to school and return in the afternoon.
The principal bus stops are on Chestnut, Second and Fourth streets. Although traffic is considerably down on Chestnut Street with the bridge construction underway, the street for some drivers is still a speedway.

Twilight at Coplay Community Plaza, Second and Chestnut streets, holds its final concert 6-8 p.m. Sept. 13. Chris Aguayo will perform. The concert is free.
The public is reminded to bring blankets and lawn chairs, since there is limited seating.

St. John’s Lutheran Church’s youth group has its annual fall kickoff Sept. 17. The group will meet 3 p.m. at the Third Street church and then go to George’s Oasis Restaurant on Schoenersville Road for a round of mini golf. Pizza at a nearby restaurant will follow.

The elevator construction project at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Fifth Street, is progressing on schedule. Twenty-five percent of the work is complete. Work is expected to be finished by late October.
