WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Can you believe that the first day of school is almost here?

I think I am in denial, or I’m just too busy with other things to even think about back to school. It has definitely been an eventful summer. Some good. Some bad. But school comes around, whether we are ready or not.

Aug. 28 is student orientation day for students in grades kindergarten, sixth and ninth. It is a nice day to get used to a new building, new rules and new schedule without all the older students filling the halls.

For those of you who did not get the call or email, the laptop distribution scheduled for this week has been postponed. The hard shell cases the school ordered for the computers have had a shipping delay. The school district will let everyone know when the new pick up dates will be.

One last reminder Western Salisbury Elementary will hold a New Family Welcome 9:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 17. Any student new to our building is invited to get a tour and learn about the ways of Western.

A regular school board meeting is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 in the administration building.

There will be a curriculum and technology committee meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 28 in the administration building.

Have you ever seen a movie at the Emmaus Theatre? My family loves to go there. The movies are pretty current and the price is right. We went to see “The Guardians of the Galaxy 2” over the summer and are planning to see “Spiderman: Homecoming” soon.

The Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church continues its summer concert series 7 p.m. Aug. 24 with a concert by The Celtic Martins.

The Devonshire drop-off will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug.19.
