North Whitehall board celebrates Neffs Fire Company anniversary
North Whitehall supervisors, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Neffs Fire Company, read a proclamation commemorating the event.
Fire Chief Jim Steward and President Eric Minnich, representing the fire company, received the proclamation from Chairman Ron Heintzelman.
There will be an open house 2-6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the fire company, 755 Park Ave., Neffs.
Refreshments, door prizes and fire prevention activities will be available. Sparky the Fire Dog is also expected to attend.
The fire company is selling anniversary raffle tickets and anyone wishing to purchase some should contact a fire company member.
In other matters, Secretary Brenda Norder reported township offices will be closed Sept. 4 for the Labor Day holiday.
Due to this, the board will meet Sept. 11.
Audrey Marsteller, and Gary and Scott Sell approached supervisors asking for an exemption of the recreation fee charged when a subdivision occurs.
Their lot will remain in agriculture and was not meant to be a building lot.
The board agreed to waiving the $2,500 fee and noted it should only apply to building lots.
Supervisors’ Vice Chairman Steve Pany will look into amending the ordinance.
Township Manager Jeff Bartlett informed the board Lehigh County has requested to move the locations of the pedestrian crossings at Geiger’s Covered Bridge near the Trexler Nature Preserve.
Bartlett also noted the audit for 2016 has been completed and was approved.
Heintzelman voiced his concern with the dumping of brush and leaves, etc. at the township facility.
Residents are hiding garbage and other items, such as paint cans and fertilizer. If this practice is continued, the township might be forced to close the facility.
Doug White, a resident of the Timberidge subdivision, addressed the board about a water problem.
His flat lot does not allow water to drain off the way it should. He would like to install a pipe to connect his lot to the storm pipe close by.
He stated this is not a 100 year storm problem, it is an everyday problem.
Renae Hamm, 4737 Route 309, wants the board to look into the neighbors’ consistent burning.
There is also an accumulation of junk on the property.
Bartlett stated much of the junk has been moved inside of a barn but he will check the site to see if there is a problem.
