David L. Mathias, 74, of Emmaus, died Aug. 4, 2017, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the husband of Jeanne M. (Hawk) Mathias. Born in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Sylvester B. and Florence (Zeider) Mathias.
He received his master’s degree in computer science from Penn State University in 1968.
He was a computer programmer for IBM in Glendale, N.Y., for 25 years, retiring in 1995. He was a mathematics teacher for various schools.
He was a member of Rivers of Life Seibert Church, Allentown.
He was the recipient of the Unsung Hero Award for his many years of varied volunteerism.
He is survived by his wife; nephew, Sylvester “Tom” and his wife Angela, of Alexandria, Va.; niece, Susan and her husband Randy Gervell, of Halifax.
Contributions may be made to the Fellowship Manor Benevolence Fund, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall, 18052.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Rivers of Life Seibert Church, 617 N. 10th St., Allentown, with a visitation 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the church. Arrangements were made by the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., Allentown.
