LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

ALBURTIS BC

The Aug. 9 meeting of Alburtis Borough Council focused primarily on a drainage system installed on a resident’s property. The property in question belonged to Adam Hite and was in the Fields at Lockridge development. Hite had set up a pipe in an easement in the backyard between two storm drains in order to prevent stormwater building up in the back yard.

There was a discussion about hiring an engineer to look at Hite’s work and perform any necessary calculations. Council talked about sending a letter to the other residents on the swale saying they can’t make any changes to the swale and if they want to improve water flow they would need a permit from the borough.

Council also talked about a rental revaluation with Norfolk Southern. There was a significant increase for the use of a drain on the railroad property. The price was originally $400 but it jumped up to $1,700. The discussion was tabled.

Another topic discussed was the Allentown Industrial Waste and Pretreat Ordinance. The ordinance was created because Lehigh County Authority has taken over concession from the city run Allentown Pretreatment Plant. The ordinance was approved unanimously.

There were a couple of residents who had issues discussed during the meeting. One resident was talking about squaring off his property to put in a driveway; the discussion was tabled. Another resident talked about trimming trees hanging over his property. Council brought up using their maintenance team to help take care of the tree issues.

Council also discussed a quote they received from Gary’s Tree Service for some work needed in the borough. There was one tree at a playground in the borough and another on Franklin Street needing to be cut down. Council has been looking for quotes from different companies, but have so far been unsuccessful.

Alburtis Borough Council will hold its next meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in Alburtis Borough Hall. Typically meetings are the second and last Wednesdays of the month.
