Northampton: Library has solar eclipse viewing glasses

Be ready for the solar eclipse Aug. 21 with your free solar eclipse viewing glasses from the Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave.

Glasses are available one per person, and quantities are limited. They are made possible by STAR_net.

Northampton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 hosts polkas and button box music 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Friday night at the Post home, Main Street and Laubach Avenue. Doors open 6:30 p.m.

DJ Flip Side will entertain with oldies music 7:30-10:30 p.m. Sept. 30.

The social hall is accepting new members. Membership is open to everyone; previous military service is not required.

Northampton Liederkranz, 402 E. Ninth St., will hold its Summerfest celebration 2-9 p.m. Aug. 19.

The public is invited to attend. There is a cost.

Live outdoor entertainment includes Peter Johann Band, 2-5 p.m., and Rock Solid, 6-9 p.m.

Live indoor entertainment by Kate & Those Guys will take place 9 p.m.-1 a.m.

Food will be catered by Mr. BBQ and Potts Hot Dogs. Homemade halupkie casserole and halushkie will be on the menu as well.

A draft beer special also will be part of the day.

Northampton Area Food Bank will hold its annual volunteer appreciation picnic 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Indianland, 787 Almond Road, Walnutport. Volunteers from throughout the year are invited.

Meat and beverages will be provided. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Zion Evangelical Church, 1904 Main St., will hold its annual basket social and flea market 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 8 and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 9 in the church basement. The drawing will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday. You don’t need to be present to win.

There are more than 350 items, including many local gift certificates, to be raffled off, so there will be something for everyone.

This event benefits the Northampton Area Food Bank and the church.

The kitchen will also be open the same hours for food and beverages.

The Friends of the Northampton Area Public Library will hold a Lehigh Valley wine tour Sept. 16. This all-day event includes stops at Franklin Hill Vineyard, Tolino Vineyard & Winery and Amore Vineyards & Winery. Light snacks will be provided throughout the tour. Dinner at Buca di Beppo, Whitehall, is included.

The tour is for those 21 and older.

There is a cost. Deadline for tickets is Aug. 30.

Northampton Area Public Library is currently accepting donations for its autumn basket social, set for 6 p.m. Oct. 13. New or collectible items can be dropped off at the library.
