Whitehall library: Meet your local heroes Aug. 8

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 8, you will have a chance to meet some of the everyday heroes who keep us safe on a daily basis. Our guests will include Whitehall Township’s fire and police departments, Cetronia Ambulance Corps, Lehigh County’s deputy sheriff and local K-9 police. We will even have a MedEvac helicopter!

Come to the library picnic area and parking lot.

There will be a party for all of the children who participated in the summer reading program. It will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 12 at the library.

Reminder: Books for toddlers to second-graders must be logged by Aug. 1. For participants in grades 3-12, the deadline is Aug. 7 .

The Friends of the Whitehall Township Public Library group invites the public to attend its regularly scheduled meetings 10 a.m. on the second Friday of each month in the library’s community room.

The next meeting will be Aug. 11.

At 6:15 p.m. Aug. 15, we will have our third Tuesday movie night - “Boss Baby” (rated PG). A suit-wearing, briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his 7-year-old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.

Our third Monday open mic and jam night will be 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21, and our special guest will be Kayla Avitabile. For Sept. 18, Tom Cooney and Donny Goldman will be here.

Entertainers interested in performing three songs or a 15-minute set are asked to sign up just before 6:30 p.m. Musicians, singers, poets, comedians, actors, writers, storytellers, etc., come show off your stuff! We also welcome you to come and just be part of the audience.

Open to all teens and adults, the library’s beading club meets 6:30 p.m. Mondays and 1 p.m. Fridays. Marty Beaton is donating supplies, so visitors and new members can try it out free of charge.

You don’t need to commit to every club meeting; just come as you will.

The library digitized Whitehall High School yearbooks from 1922 to 2016. We are able to provide copies on DVDs that can be displayed on a computer. Complete an order form and payment to receive your copy.

Order forms are available at the front desk; the library will call when the copy is ready.

We will be collecting nonperishable canned and boxed food products. All items collected will be given to Whitehall Food Pantry.

Items may be dropped off during regular library hours.

The library will continue to collect items for Peaceable Kingdom animal shelter. They are looking for new toys, dog and cat food, litter, old but clean towels, bedding, etc.

Please drop off your donations during regular library hours.
