LOWHILL TOWNSHIP Morgenland Church to have summer picnic Aug. 12

Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, is having a summer picnic 4-9 p.m. Aug. 12 in the church grove in Leather Corner Post, Orefield. Rain date is 1-6 p.m. Aug. 13.

Music will be provided by Country Rhythm band. There will be cakewalks, raffles and children activities.

There will also be hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue red beet eggs, french fries, soft drinks, ice cream and penny candy.

The Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry is open 9-11 a.m. the first Saturday of each month and 4-6 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.

Senior citizens will be served 10 a.m. to noon the previous Wednesday.

The food pantry serving Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn and Weisenberg townships, accepts donations 9-11 a.m. and by appointment the last Saturday and the third Tuesday of each month.

Donations may be dropped off at both New Tripoli Bank branches and ESSA Bank, Routes 309 and 100, New Tripoli.

Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, is hosting Owl Awareness Day with owl themed activities Aug. 5.

Join zoo staff to celebrate Hug a (Stuffed) Bear Day Aug. 6.

There will be an assortment of bear-themed crafts and activities such as Teddy Bear X-rays, bear-themed story time and a Bear-Y fun scavenger hunt.

Kids bring your favorite bear to see the zoo’s in house veterinarian.

Members of the zoo’s veterinary department will give stuffed animal checkups and mend minor injuries 10 to noon and 2-3:30 p.m. at the Teddy Bear Clinic.

The zoo will be celebrating Zoo-Zen with an animal themed yoga day Aug. 12.

Stop by and learn why taking time to relax is good for both humans and animals.

Kangaroo Appreciation Day at the zoo will be held Aug. 13.

There will be kangaroo-themed activities as well as a chance for visitors to go inside the zoo’s kangaroo exhibit.

World Lizard Day at the zoo will be celebrated Aug. 14.

There will be lizard-themed activities.

Stop by the R.A.D. Center to discover more about reptiles and amphibians.

There will be hands-on interactive experiences, keeper talks and up close encounters with some of your favorite animals during the Wonders of Wildlife encounters at all these activities and celebrations at the zoo.
