The cool temperature of the middle school auditorium was the perfect complement to the cool musical sounds that reverberated in the space as the high school music department rolled out its spring concert during this past school year.
The concert featured perennial favorites including medley pieces ranging from highlights of “Beauty and the Beast” to selections from “Batman the Dark Knight Rises.”
Matt Seier said the pieces were selected with the audience in mind.
“People will be more willing to come and support the band if they’re familiar with the music,” he said.
The chorus, under the direction of Greg Snider, was the first to perform with three selections including the theme from the “Pink Panther.”
The Tenutos, a clarinet only group, followed, performing “Panis Angelicus.”
“Ben Fruchtl started this group before he graduated and we just kept it going,” said member Sara Baran.
Commitment such as this is the core for all the musical groups that performed.
The same can be said for the Naturelettes, a women’s a cappella group, started a few years ago by students themselves.
The Jazz Band and the Concert Band, both under the direction of James Lykins, rounded out the evening’s entertainment featuring pieces such as Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” and Beethoven’s “Turkish March.”
Matt Seier said he “washed cars, worked at McDonalds, mowed lawns and walked dogs to scrape up the money” to buy his trumpet which he says “is worth more than a car.”
