Construction activity is underway at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St. A backhoe has moved mounds of ground as an elevator being installed there.

Seniors, in particular, are happy for the project, which has been discussed for years.

The structure and elevator are being built on the rear north side of the church, near the rectory. The parish overwhelmingly supported the project via survey and funds.

Some big-time wood chopping was going on over the last several days at Parkway Pool. Borough crews, with the help of a lift, took down a massive tree outside of the pool on the north side.

The tree was planted when Parkway Pool was constructed in the early 1970s.

Borough Administrator/Secretary Sandra Gyecsek said she has not received any word from Lehigh County or the contractor regarding when real progress will start for the demolition of the existing 1930s-era bridge. There has been a Verizon van on the scene recently, along with a fence contractor. The light standards have been removed.
