This year’s Steeples & Steel Tour presents new locations that reflect the lives of immigrants on the South Side of Bethlehem. The two-hour tour shares the history and experiences of those who left their homelands in search of a better life in America. Settling in Bethlehem to become steelworkers, their cultures and faiths enriched the town where they worked.

Each two-hour tour includes: The first hour, led by a South Bethlehem Historical Society guide, focuses on the history of working class communities. The second hour, led by an actual steelworker, tours the flagship Bethlehem Steel plant. The tour includes a traditional Eastern European goulash lunch along with an open house of St. John’s.

Four tour dates, sponsored by the South Bethlehem Historical Society, Steelworkers’ Archives, and Northampton County, leave from St. John’s Windish Lutheran Church, 617 E. Fourth Street, Bethlehem on July 22, August 19, September 16, and November 4 at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. A guided minibus takes visitors through the neighborhoods, the churches, and to the cemeteries influenced by steelworkers and their families.
