Bruce A. McIlhaney, First Baptist Church member

Bruce A. McIlhaney, of Bethlehem, died June 29, 2017. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Bruce and Doris McIlhaney. He was the husband of Christina (Carroll) McIlhaney for 41 years.

He was a Dieruff High School graduate. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.

He was a war photographer for the Stars and Stripes in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star.

He worked at the Bethlehem Steel and later as a registered nurse.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bethlehem, where he was part of the Praise and Worship team and sang in the choir. He sang in the Zion Choral for many years. He was a volunteer for mission trips building houses in Mexico; New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina; and in New Jersey, following Superstorm Sandy. He volunteered as a cook at Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a volunteer at ArtsQuest.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Hillary Rose and her husband Michael Harper of Bethlehem, Maureen Doris and her husband Daniel Costura and their daughters Lea Rose and Tessa of Hyde Park, New York, and Charlene and her husband Chris Conlon of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Judy Fasching; and three brothers, Robert, Barry and Harold and their spouses.
