The NORCO Legion playoffs got underway on Tuesday and Northampton comes into the postseason race as the top seed.
Northampton (15-4) knocked off eighth-seeded Birches 4-2 in the opener and looked to finish them off in Wednesday’s second game of the best of three series, which was after Press deadlines.
The first round of the tournament was slated to begin on Monday, but the league had to push back it’s final day of the regular season a day, moving three opening round dates to July 4, 5 and 6.
Second-seeded Hellertown (14-5) got the best of seventh-seeded Bankos (9-10) with a 1-0 win, while East Stroudsburg (11-8) scored the first upset, knocking off Roseto 10-8 in a three-six matchup.
Freemansburg (12-6), the fourth-seed, brought a seven game winning streak into the postseason and picked up right where they left off with a 6-4 win over fifth-seeded Nazareth (11-7-1).
Round two of the tournament will take place this weekend on July 7, 8 and 9.
NORCO must have a champion declared by July 12, as only one team will advance to regionals.
Next week’s championship dates are slated for July 10, 11 and 12.
