Coplay: Stadium fencing in the plans

A postscript on the Coplay Legion Baseball dedication of its scoreboard recently: Present and active with the program and field for decades were Pepper Martin, Bill Polaha and others.

In his address, borough Councilman Steve Burker, recreation committee chair, spoke of the partnership with Coplay Legion Baseball, noting Community Days’ aid for new fencing at the stadium. He added night lighting has not been forgotten - including communication with state and federal officials over such a possibility - and mentioned due to the high cost of the lights, the venture does not happen overnight.

Residents who put electronic equipment, such as television sets, VCRs and other items, out for refuse pickup are reminded the borough does not pick up the materials. Residents have to fend for themselves to find places to dispose of such items, usually requiring a fee.

There is a need for a 1969 borough centennial book with the town’s organizations and history. Call 610-262-8625 if interested in making such a donation.

Coplay Public Library has a chock-full itinerary of events on tap for this month. Disney storytime will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays; The Stem Lab with Miss Veronica, 6 p.m. Wednesdays; and Munchkin Music with Miss Deb, 4 p.m. Thursdays.

There will be a special treat 11 a.m. July 22 when Texas Roadhouse’s mascot, Armadillo, makes an appearance.

The library has a tree with ornaments for Christmas in July. Patrons can take an ornament and give it to a family member, neighbor or local organization.
