Joan M. Timmcke

Joan M. (Mackenzie) Timmcke, formerly of Emmaus, died peacefully in the home of her daughter Susan MacKenzie Edwards, son-in-law Bruce Edwards and their children Dec. 15, 2016. She was born in Drexel Hill. She had been living in San Diego for the past four years following the death of her husband Wesley Timmcke, of Emmaus. They had been married for 43 years.

She graduated from Penn State with a degree in secondary education. During her time at Penn State she was a cheerleader and was elected homecoming queen in her freshman year. She was a member of Angel Flight and was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, where she served as president for two terms.

After graduating from Penn State, she earned a master’s degree in education and literature from Lehigh University.

She was a professional singer and sang with the Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians band in Philadelphia.

She was a teacher at Emmaus High School for several years and was a pioneer by starting the first women’s swim team at Emmaus High School.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan and her husband Bruce Edwards and their three children Jennifer, John and Kristin; Dr. Alan, Kris Michael, Julie, Lisa Keller and Carl; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, David Scott MacKenzie and Brian.
