Joan Kathleen Butz
Joan Kathleen (Schnaitman) Butz, 75, of Macungie, died peacefully June 25, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Larry Ira Butz. They were married for 55 years. Born in Catasauqua, she was the daughter of the late George and Julia (Yuschak) Schnaitman.
She graduated from Catasauqua High School, Class of 1959.
She worked at the Topton Lutheran Home for 20 years, retiring in 2010.
She was an avid tennis player when she lived in Miami, Fla. After moving to Pennsylvania, she was a member of the Shepherd Hills Women’s Golf League for many years, was a member of the Women’s Guild of Ancient Oak and played in many clubs throughout the years, including bridge, bunco, pinnacle, and mahjong.
She was loved by her family, had many wonderful friends and was an “adopted” mother for many of her children’s friends.
She made every Christmas special and loved to be with her family for holidays and special occasions.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Monica and her husband Michael James, of Macungie; son, Matthew and his wife Lori, of Pennsburg; four grandchildren, Brock and Jack McElhenney, of Macungie and Dalton and Savanna, of Pennsburg; step-granddaughter, Lindsey James, of Allentown; sisters, Constance and her husband Richard Kimble, of New Jersey; Georgette Schweyer, of Allentown; Janet and her husband Richard Wanamaker, of Catasauqua.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. June 29 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. A viewing will be held 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 29 in the church. Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
