EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN
Summer vacation is in full swing. Luckily, we have things always going on in our area.
This summer, the Salisbury Township School District has summer library hours at the Salisbury Middle School. The library is open 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 28, July 12, July 19, July 26 and Aug. 2. This is a great opportunity for some summer reading.
The summer playground program continues 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through July 28. The program is held at Green Acres, Lindberg, Devonshire and Laubach parks for Salisbury children entering first grade through age 12. Children will enjoy arts and crafts as well as sports clinics. Visit www.salisburytownshippa.org for more information.
The Allentown Library is partnering with the playground program to offer books for participants to borrow. Children should have an Allentown Library card which can be obtained at the library. Books may be returned to any of the playground program locations, the Salisbury Township Municipal Building or the Allentown Library. The book van visits will be held: June 30, July 7, 14 and 21 on the following schedule: Green Acres Park – 9:30 a.m., Lindberg Park – 9:55 a.m., Devonshire Park – 10:30 a.m. and Laubach Park – 11 a.m,
There will be a school board meeting 6:30 p.m. July 10 in the administration building.
Do your kids enjoy gardening? HST third and fourth graders had a great opportunity this past year to work with the Kellyn Foundation to plant a garden. The garden is in need of some volunteers to continue to take care of it over the summer. You can sign up for a week at a time to weed, water and harvest as needed. To sign up for a week, go to signupgenius.com and click on find a sign-up. On the find a sign-up page, under the email of the creator’s name, enter srooney@salisburysd.org. You can then select the dates you want to tend to the garden.
The Allentown Art Museum is offering free entrance noon to 4 p.m. every Sunday now through Aug. 27. This is made possible due to a generous partnership with several trusts.
Our local Lehigh Valley Zoo is always busy with activity. Some upcoming events include June 29 which is National Mud day, a day to celebrate with some muddy fun. On July 1, the zoo is holding a red, wine and blue event for those 21 and older. The zoo will host local wineries and vineyards in conjunction with their keeper talks. On July 2, National Goat day, visitors will learn all about the goats at the zoo….and they are pretty cute!
Know of an upcoming summer activity in the valley? Feel free to share it with us so we can spread the word to others.
The Franko Farm Yard Waste Drop off site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 and 11.
