Asbury Church issues statement on bomb squad response

Asbury Methodist Church, South Whitehall, has issued a statement to the June 16 incident in which South Whitehall Township police and the Allentown Bomb Squad responded around 11 a.m. to a report of a suspicious package.

“Asbury Church is open. There were news reports today (Friday, June 16, 2017) about a suspicious item identified inside the building,” Asbury Church Director of Communications Cristina Lenner emailed The Press. “Authorities removed the item, searched the premises and found there to be no threat.

“All activities and Sunday worship services are continuing as scheduled.

“Thank you to all of the first responders and authorities who assisted in keeping everyone in our building safe during today’s incident.”

According to a South Whitehall Township police employee on June 20, the department would not be releasing any information on the incident.
