Frances W. (Wetzel) Leibensperger

Frances W. (Wetzel) Leibensperger, 102, of Kutztown, died June 12, 2017, in her residence. She was the wife of the late Harold H. Leibensperger. They were married for 62 years, prior to his death July 21, 2003. Born in Macungie, she was a daughter of the late Frank E. and Meda M. (Arnel) Wetzel.

Growing up in Macungie, she became a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she currently was the oldest confirmed member of the congregation.

After her graduation from Emmaus High School in 1932, she attended nurse training school at Allentown General Hospital, where she later worked as a nurse for several years.

She also worked in a millinery shop and was a homemaker. She most recently worked at Dunkelberger’s Fine Jewelry in Kutztown for over 30 years, until her retirement.

In her younger years, she took voice lessons in Allentown, and also performed with the Allentown Civic Opera.

She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader in Kutztown for many years, and was active with the Greater Berks Girl Scout Council, even though she didn’t have a daughter.

She was a member of The Kutztown Area Historical Society, Kutztown Women’s Club, Kutztown Democratic Club, and had a love for cats.

She is survived by a son, Philip W. and his wife Alexis A. (Lamanna), of Falls Church, Va.; brother, Arnel R. “Sonny” and his wife Dolly Wetzel, of Allentown; nephews, Jeffrey Wetzel, Arnel Wetzel Jr. and Randall Kneedler; niece, Andrea Zavacky. She was predeceased by a sister, Lenore E. Kneedler in 2014.
