Whitehall library: Poetry reading is planned at library

At 6:30 p.m. June 12, Gail Zimmerman Thomas, a graduate of Whitehall High School and Kutztown University and former English teacher, will visit the library for a poetry reading and book signing.

Thomas has published four books of poetry and has had many other pieces included in various anthologies and journals.

Come and join us June 15 and 22, both from 11 a.m. to noon, for Everything is Awesome with LEGOS! We will be building things with LEGOS as part of the Building a Better World theme for our summer reading program.

This program is for children, youth and teens.

Donations of the LEGOS were made by McDonald’s, Bridge 2 Creative Learning Center and patron contributions.

The kick-off event for the summer reading program will be 11 a.m. June 17 with magician Brian Richards. The event is free and open to all ages.

There also will be storytimes and plenty of activities involving building, nature and art as we seek to make a better world. Join us for science, animal programs, kids’ bingo, contests and prizes.

Representatives of Wildlands Conservancy will be at the library 6:30 p.m. June 21 to do show and tell about pollinators. The event is open to all who are interested in flower critters (live animals) that play a big role in our ecosystems.

At 6:30 p.m. June 22, as part of MacArthur Road’s ongoing 75th anniversary celebration, Karen Gensey, historian and author of “Whitehall, Pennsylvania: The Golden Strip of the Lehigh Valley,” will discuss the history of the road and the surrounding area.
