Civil War Days
On June 17 and 18, Friends of Camp Geiger will sponsor its ninth Lehigh Valley Civil War Days at the Whitehall Parkway recreational area on Church Street in Whitehall. The event is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-noon Sunday.
To commemorate the second year of the Civil War, the battle of Hanover Courthouse, which took place in May of 1862, will be featured. The two phases of the battle will be reenacted 10:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. A battlefield lecture will precede each battle.
Local musician Ken Purcell will perform at the twilight concert 7 p.m. Saturday.
Trench battles demonstrating the changing face of war also will be held each day, along with behind-the-scenes tours of the trenches during breaks in the fighting.
Confederate and Union camps will be set up to depict military life during the war. A field hospital will be among the offerings held daily on the historic street.
A lecture by General Grant, a Victorian fashion show and period music will be featured.
Food will be available.
Admission is free for spectators, but donations will benefit the Civil War battlefield preservation.
Attendees are asked not to wear period attire or bring weapons to the event; only registered participants may do so.
