Cedar Crest marks 147th graduation

Cedar Crest College celebrated 150 years of preparing students for life in the global community with a weekend of festivities in May.

Baccalaureate was held on May 12 in the Lees Hall gymnasium. The Class of 2017 dinner and awards ceremony followed the service. “On the Crest of the Future,” the 147th commencement, was held May 13 on the campus quad. Molly Barker, founder of Girls on the Run, was the commencement speaker.

Ling named Reimert lecture speaker

Cedar Crest College will continue the 150th Anniversary celebration this October with a special event featuring author and journalist Lisa Ling. Ling is the guest speaker for the College’s William D. Reimert Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 5. in Alumnae Hall. The event is open to the public but tickets are required.

She is currently the executive producer and host of This is Life on CNN. Prior to that, she produced and hosted Our America on OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network. She has been a contributor to ABC News’ Nightline and National Geographic’s Explorer.

She is the co-author of “Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood” and “Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home.”

Brennan inducted

Julia Brennan, of Bethlehem, has been inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.

To be selected, the Cedar Crest College undergraduate had a minimum of two college courses in English language and literature beyond the usual requirements in freshman English; a minimum of a B or equivalent average in English and in general scholarship (a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale); ranks at least in the top thirty-five percent of her class, and completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college course work.

NCC dental program has perfect pass rate

Graduates of Northampton Community College’s dental hygiene program have a 100 percent pass rate this year, according to the National Board of Dental Hygiene profile report. Program graduates have scored above the national average for the last three years.

One of the college’s oldest programs, dental hygiene offers students the ability to work with actual patients in the NCC dental clinic at the Fowler Family Southside Center.
