Robert E. “Taid” Jones, 82, of Allentown, died May 24, 2017, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall.
He was the widower of Eileen (Moran) Jones.
Born in Slatington, he was the son of the late Thomas and Kathryn (Williams) Jones.
A 1962 graduate of Kutztown University with a Bachelor’s degree in education, he graduated from Lehigh University in 1967 with a Master’s degree in education and superintendent certification.
He taught social studies at Raub Elementary School, Allentown, where he was also the baseball coach for 20 years.
After that, he went to Nazareth Middle School where he was vice principal and principal for 20 years.
He was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
A devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan, he had a great love of cars, and enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. .
His survivors include a daughter, Valerie Berdahl, wife of Jeff, of Allentown; son Robert and fiancée Beth Petersen; grandchildren Andrew, Elizabeth and Thomas Berdahl, and Jordan, Olivia, Eleanor and William Jones.
A memorial service will take place 11 a.m. June 2 at Jordan Lutheran Church, 5103 Snowdrift Road, Orefield 18069.
There will be no calling hours before the service. Interment will be private.
