Joseph S. Heidenwolf

Joseph S. Heidenwolf, 88, a longtime resident of Fullerton and a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, died May 22, 2017.

Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Stella (Seier) Heidenwolf.

He and his wife, Maria, celebrated 62 years of marriage last October.

He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Central Catholic High School.

At age 17, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Berlin, Germany.

After completing his tour in the Army, he returned to Allentown to complete his education and attend Allentown Business School.

In 1950, he re-enlisted in Battery. B, 213th AAA Gun Battalion, Pennsylvania National Guard and returned to 21 months of active duty, including time in Korea.

After returning home, he continued activities with the Guard until January 1972 and was honorably discharged as a captain with 27 years of service.

He was a supervisor at Mack Trucks in the operations department of MIS. He retired from Mack in 1987 with 30 years of service.

He volunteered with various civic and military organizations and was an active member and officer at the former Allgemeiner Club and Austrian/Hungarian Veterans’ Association.

He was a past president of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Military Officers Association of America, a past officer of the 213th Regiment, and a past staff member and MC of the Tobyhanna Army Depot Retirement Services Office.

At the time of his death, he was still actively involved with the upkeep of the 213th Regimental museum. He loved football and bowling. As an avid Gator fan, every fall he traveled to an annual Florida Gator football game in Gainesville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Joseph A. and wife, Mary E., and John of Allentown; daughters Sylvia Seltzer and husband, Glen, of Allentown, Cynthia Wise of Whitehall, and Mary A. Niles and husband, Ray, of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Albert.
