David R. Nissen

David R. Nissen, 87, of Allentown, died on May 23, 2017, in his home.

He and his wife Doris M. (Koch) Nissen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in January.

Born in Slatington, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Sarah (Jones) Nissen.

A 1948 graduate of Slatington High School, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post 13, Allentown.

He was a salesman for Allentown Paint from 1955-88 and a self-employed painter and paperhanger for many years.

A member of UCC Greenawalds, South Whitehall, he was also a member of the former Salem UCC, Allentown, where he served as an elder, deacon and was on the property committee.

He was a past president and board member of the Abe Joseph Sertoma Club and served as Sertoma District secretary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: Robert D. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Allentown, Keith A. and his companion, Diane Hock, of New Tripoli; daughter Judith A. Anton and her husband, Kenneth, of North Wales; brother Richard and his wife, Georgene, of Allentown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers George and Harold, and by his sister Lucille Nissen.
