Richard A. Mattern, 91, of Walnutport and formerly of Emmaus, died May 19, 2017, at Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Stosh) Mattern.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Arthur A. and Mabel (Eastman) Mattern.

He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was an assistant postmaster in Allentown and the director of finance at the Lehigh Valley facility of the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years until he retired in 1980.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Emmaus, and was a former church council member.

He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. Sullenberger; and three grandsons.

He was predeceased by a son, Scott K. Mattern.
