LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

MORAVIAN ACADEMY Ending the year right by Anna Crumpler

Moravian Academy has been overflowing with good vibes and positive energy all year, but around this time everyone is just about ready to burst. Seniors have already left campus to complete their post-terms, an externship students must complete before they graduate, and are highly anticipating the June 3 graduation date.

Everyone else on campus is working hard to finish up the year, bustling with AP exams and finals. Moravian students are more than prepared to conquer these academic challenges and take on the difficult coursework bravely, with the help of amazing faculty and staff.

All members of our community are trying to savor time with not only the soon-graduating seniors, but also two incredible teachers who are nearing retirement: Mrs. Beck-Briggs and Mr. Caldwell. On behalf of the entire Moravian community, I want to thank these teachers for putting so much time and love into making Moravian Upper School what is today. These kids are more than just students, however, and use their gifts both in and out of the classroom.

Spring sports teams had an incredible season. Boys lacrosse came to a close just recently after a season of hard work and perseverance, while girls lacrosse continues to progress through district competition fearlessly. Track and field sent multiple students to league competition in events such as hurdles, and hopes to continue on toward higher awards and titles. Boy tennis had an incredible season, including a state championship in doubles for seniors Abbhi Sekar and Oliver Scott.

Overall, Moravian students were able to not only manage these extracurricular activities on top of AP exams and rigorous coursework, but thrive in them.

So you know we’ve been busy in the classroom and on the sports field, but we cannot forget the stage. The spring drama, “Arcadia,” ran this April and was beautifully captivating and thought- provoking, and provided an incredible evening.

On top of theater, all of our music ensembles held spring concerts in May. The wind ensemble, string ensemble, choirs and bell choirs all provided wonderful performances.

I would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Tang, the director of our string orchestra who is retiring this year, for all the work she’s done to make our music department even greater, in all divisions of Moravian Academy.

As our 275th year as a school comes to a close, we as a community have tried to take time to reflect on how we got here. We recognize that there have been so many people before us who have worked so hard so that we could be here today. So, even amid the whirlwind of proms and papers and sports games and performances, I want to try to stop and appreciate all the awesome things we have managed both this year and in our history as a school. As the door closes on this year, all we can do is eagerly await the opening of a new year rapidly approaching. From here, the only way to go is up.
